Typical quote: "I would rather hear my dog died than to hear my carrot would not grow as a young man" - dlh

Below is a transcript of channel 103 chat. Channel 103 is a place where religion is discussed, (atheists battle the Christians). (I am eadon-com by the way.) [This conversation is about the Carrot Seed Song. The discussion revolves arround a rather bizarre web page courtesy of catdoc here (opens in a new window)]

dlh: brother catdoc, got any more of those carrot growing stories? Seems as if this cruel mom told her adolescent son that his carrot would not grow, LOL

catdoc: Not just his mom, dlh

dlh: ah, his dad and sister too. I bet he showed them. His name, when he grew up, was Johnny Holmes [John Holmes was a porn thespian, famous for his 14 inch, erm, acting ability.]

catdoc: brother. [quotes a lyric from the Carrot Seed Song] "And his big brother said "nyaah nyahh it won't come up, nyaah nyahh it won't up come, I told you so, I told you so, your carrot won't come up".

dlh: catdoc, how did you find that site?

catdoc: I had that record when I was a kid - singing the story to my girlfriend to make her laugh, then thought I'd see if it could actually be proven to exist, and wasn't just some fevered dream

dlh: Freud would have loved that story

dlh: sounds like a great pick up line catdoc.

catdoc: you figure girls are going to go for a guy who says "Mothers know a lot of things, little boys can't know - and mother knows your carrot seed might never, never grow"?

dlh: lol, well, maybe not

dlh: too bad a little mp3 [downloadable music] file did not exist at that site that you could click on and listen to that little perv song

catdoc: Maybe it's on Napster? I don't know - I don't think my parents still have the record, but who knows what's in that basement

catdoc: I think maybe I should go down to the local comedy club on "professional's night" - I think the Carrot Seed Song alone would make me famous

eadon-com: I came in half way through your carrot conversation. sounded like an interesting carrot conversation.

dlh: eadon, did you not see the carrot song site?

eadon-com: no dlh, please pray do tell me the url

dlh: catdoc has it

eadon-com: catdoc please pray do tell me the url

catdoc: http://www.ksu.edu/english/nelp/purple/miscellaneous/carrot_seed_song.html

dlh: be sure to read the words of the song eadon
carrot seed song

catdoc: read only the words - the rest is just blether

dlh: there is a carrot seed site with FAQ, LOL

catdoc: Just think, dlh, eadon is having little revelation, at this very moment. It's kind of thrilling

dlh: moms sure know how to hurt a little tyke growing up there catdoc

catdoc: "Oh, I get it .... sometimes ... your carrot just doesn't grow. Well, gee that sure takes a load off".

dlh: I would rather hear my dog died than to hear my carrot would not grow as a young man

eadon-com: [having just read the Carrot Seed Site] quite remarkable

catdoc: Women all need to learn that song, and instead of saying "No, that's ok, really ... I don't mind", they could sing "Mothers know a lot of things ... .". Or "nyaah nyaah it won't come up", according to mood.

eadon-com: "Your carrot won't come up" lol

eadon-com: so what does it all mean? [asks with irony]

dlh: yeah, that little sister or brother was particularly nasty

dlh: I loved the illustrations that went with the record too

eadon-com: most song lyrics don't read too well. The Carrot Seed Song is a noble exception

catdoc: You'd love the song, dlh. It has sound effects, of weeds being pulled, and water being piddled.

dlh: I have seen many things nyaaaaa nyaaaaaaad in my life, but never my carrot, sigh, LOL

catdoc: lucky - I doubt you'd get over it'

dlh: woah catdoc, LOL

dlh: the weed pulling and watering all have important significance. It is a repressed urge after reading Deuteronomy 25 [Old Testament] Psychologists call it "transference"

catdoc: It just means, don't be disappointed if your carrot doesn't grow, eadon.

catdoc: Actually, it's sort of a smarmy version of the rubber tree plant song

catdoc: with weird 50's Freudian overtones

dlh: what is the rubber tree plant song like?

eadon-com: Oh thanks catdoc, I was expecting nothing more ;)

eadon-com: In my quest for the carrot song I uncovered another carrot song!

eadon-com: hey guys this other carrot song is a masterpiece too!

dlh: lol eadon, what is its site?

eadon-com: http://www.ksu.edu/english/nelp/purple/miscellaneous/carrot_seed_song.html [opens in a new window]

catdoc: You know - ants can't move rubber tree plants?

eadon-com: That song is profound. I realise now that carrots are symbolic of Satan's temptations. Notice also how both carrot songs concern mothers

catdoc: yeah, there's a little something there, with mom saying about the magic powers of carrots, and him lasting all night

dlh: dang, the [downloaded] song was buffering but not playing, LOL

dlh: now we know the forbidden "fruit" was Adam's carrot eh?

catdoc: what song, dlh - the kids one, or the grownups one

dlh: the one you told me of eadon

dlh: carrots help you "see" at night eh?

dlh: the mystical inward carrot

catdoc: It's playing for me ...

catdoc: piano intro

eadon-com: I think you are on to something with Adam's "fruit" there dlh. Perhaps the Apple was a mistranslation from the Ancient Hebrew for carrot

dlh: lol eadon

dlh: be careful of that site too, it is titled Grandma's "Back Door" lyrics. lol

eadon-com: rofl

catdoc: I bet this guy heard the other carrot song when he was a kid. Maybe forgot. But it was back there in his subconscious, telling him that if he watered it, and pulled the weeds ...

Dudge: listening to the carrot song now (eadon's)

dlh: ah, it is playing now, quite peaceful

Dudge: what was the other?

dlh: it is good to listen to peaceful songs once you know your carrot is not growing

eadon-com: There is something disturbing about that picture on the cover of the children's carrot song

catdoc: The big carrot on the wheelbarrow?

carrot seed jacket

eadon-com: yes

dlh: rofl eadon

catdoc: I have seldom needed auxiliary mechanical aids for my enormous carrot.

eadon-com: Well his carrot had obviously come up

dlh: roflmao [roflmao in an acronym for rolling on floor laughing my ass off] catdoc

dlh: I have never had such a good laugh

catdoc: I don't have Napster loaded up any more - can someone check and see if the Carrot Song exists out there? It's a long shot, but you never know.

dlh: the carrot song taps into a man's deep inner psyche for sure

Dudge: It's not on the server I'm on, catdoc.

Dudge: But that doesn't mean it won't be there if you log on, or if I log on again.

eadon-com: Dudge's carrot won't come up :)

dlh: lol

dlh: my wife tells me I am wheezing I am laughing so hard

Dudge: got asthma, dlh?

catdoc: it's good for you, dlh.

Dudge: Very witty, eadon.

eadon-com: >genuflects to Dudge<

dlh: didn't think so Dudge, at least until I saw the Freudian significance behind eadon's and catdoc' s interpretation of the wheel barrow pic

dlh: I wonder what Carl Jung would think of that song and pic. Or, would have thought

catdoc: I think Jung would have all bored and grown-up. It's too Freudian, and it would have bugged him.

dlh: I bet there is a comparable song concerned moms sing to their young daughters

catdoc: Jung didn't have the greatest sense of humour in the world

eadon-com: Perhaps Jung's carrot wouldn't come up

dlh: lol eadon [LastKnight arrives]

dlh: brother LastKnight is a big carrot man, I will show him the site-----------

LastKnight: carrot? lol

dlh: http://www.ksu.edu/english/nelp/purple/miscellaneous/carrot_seed_song.html

dlh: check out that site LastKnight

dlh: a mom told a young man his carrot was not going to grow

dlh: and the young man's sibling threw in his/her two cents worth too

Dudge: Is it just me, or does anyone else see all of these "carrot" references as a bit shallow?

eadon-com: You should plant your carrot deeper Dudge

dlh: lol eadon

Membrane: wow dlh

Membrane: know what?

Membrane: there's an interesting story behind that book.

dlh: the carrot book Membrane?

Membrane: When I first came to the U.S., my aunt started teaching me English. I was 5 years old. "The Carrot Seed Book" was the first English book I had ever read!!!

eadon-com: gosh

dlh: really Membrane?

Membrane: Yep.

dlh: amazing

Membrane: I remember aunt going to fridge pointing and saying........ cccccaaaaaaaaarrrrrooooottttttt.

dlh: lol

eadon-com: Membrane, did your carrot come up?

Membrane: I got a carrot bigger than all of yours.
