Typical quote: "I had a lucid dream that this gal sleeping next to me was biting my neck like a vampire, four different times in twenty minutes... I would wake up, and there she was, sleeping" - BishopHavoc

Below is a transcript of channel 103 chat. Channel 103 is a place where religion is discussed, (atheists battle the Christians). (I am eadon-com by the way.)

BishopHavoc: Whitman was afraid to look inward

Batman: Aristotle was afraid to look inward.

dlh: when we look inward, we can see our strengths and weaknesses

eadon-com: looking inward is something that the conscious mind does?

dlh: at least eadon, but query whether the subconscious mind looks inward. Dreams are interesting for example, do we have any control over our dreams?

eadon-com: sure, but does dlh know where is subconscious mind looks?

dlh: good question eadon

eadon-com: It can happen dlh, once I had control over a dream. Once. It happened about 10 years ago): I was researching the phenomenon of lucid dreams at the time... [lucid dreaming is the experience of actually being conscious in your dream. You are literally as aware in the dream as when awake.]

dlh: dlh tries to dream about the Spice Girls, but to no avail

Batman: the essence of the dream is subconscious, if you realise it's a dream, it becomes conscious.

dlh: one dude would wake up as he had the occasion and write his dreams down before he went back to sleep

eadon-com: I was sleeping and dreaming and I was in a cartoon dream, strangely, and I was noting that there was a cartoon dragon

Batman: there is an easy control for that...form a habit of asking yourself "Am I dreaming?" soon that habit will carry over into your subconscious and you can dream you're with the spice girls.

eadon-com: and this dragon was breathing fire at me

dlh: Jung and Freud wrote a lot about the subject of dreams

Batman: Jung's work was a lot more intelligent.

BishopHavoc: spice girls smice girls

dlh: I have found that if I meditate peacefully before I go to sleep that my dreams seem less unpleasant

eadon-com: what struck me as odd was that although I "knew" that the dragon was a figment of my own brain, I was unable to anticipate when it would breathe fire at me, and hence scare me, which it did!

dlh: ah eadon, so you did not have complete control eh?

eadon-com: so, in my dream, I questioned the validity of the dragon and hence the dream and .... the most astonishing thing happened

BishopHavoc: I find that when I pray to God to keep satan out of my dreams, it works

eadon-com: ... suddenly I became conscious in my dream! An experience that I haven't had before or in the 10 years since (sadly)

Batman: I made a conscious deduction in a dream two weeks ago, I didn't think deduction was possible in dreams.

eadon-com: this is spiritual stuff dlh!

dlh: quite so eadon!

eadon-com: Anyway, I became conscious in my dream and it was the most weird experience I have ever had, even stranger than seeing my children emerge from my wife's belly

dlh: what does the phrase mean, "the mind of the subconscious"?

eadon-com: this happened: The dream became real. I could see everything and smell it, it became real!

Dudge: You can read about how to achieve a state of "lucid dreaming."

eadon-com: it was as real as I see the computer that I am typing into now

dlh: but not the dragon dream I take it eadon?

eadon-com: yes!

Dudge: It's a branch of psychology

dlh: eadon saw a real dragon?

eadon-com: the cartoon dragon dream was as real as the reality I am seeing now!

eadon-com: bear with me!

Batman: there was a bear with you too?

dlh: what is lucid dreaming Dudge?

Dudge: Being "aware" that you're dreaming. And thus able to control the dream.

CryoWolf: Is eadon on acid?

eadon-com: anyway, having researched lucid dreams and also having researched out of body experiences

BishopHavoc: yes that's how satan works eadon-com...you think he's a figment of imag. .. but you are unable to explain why you cant anticipate when he will burn you

dlh: so BishopHavoc, do you think satan really shows up in your dreams?

eadon-com: I decided to snap out of the absurd cartoon dream and try to spy on my lovely female flatmate (I was a student at the time, sharing a flat with other students) and this happened....

dlh: so eadon knew at this point he was dreaming

Batman: I believe that BishopHavoc may be referencing the subconscious part of the mind Jung referred to as the Shadow...

BishopHavoc: yes dlh!... in dreams Satan can call more shots!

eadon-com: I suddenly was up near my ceiling, but also aware that my presence was in my head

CryoWolf: I had a dream the other night (and this is the truth) that some friends of mine and I were in a car and they realized that everything was simply a dream, but I was skeptical.

dlh: BishopHavoc has blown my mind

eadon-com: and so I decided to manoeuvre into my female flatmate's bedroom....

CryoWolf: they wanted to go around doing all kinds of things, but I couldn't be sure if it was a dream or not. So I played it safe. Turned out it was a dream.

BishopHavoc: spiritual dreams are spiritual discerned

CryoWolf: but I've had 3 lucid dreams that I can remember.

eadon-com: and so it was that I did (though all the time I was conscious, literally conscious, of being in my head) and I was in my flatmates bedroom floating like a spirit in the top corner of her room

CryoWolf: I wish I could do it every night.

eadon-com: me too

Dudge: One recommended way of learning to realize that you're dreaming is to ALWAYS have with you during the day something, the same wristwatch, a number taped to your hand...somewhere you see it a lot. Then when you dream, if it's not there, you may notice the difference from what you're used to.

dlh: so eadon, are dreams merely "neurons firing in the brain"?

eadon-com: anyway I was in the top corner of her room, but... I was facing the ceiling

CryoWolf: that's a good idea, Dudge. And then if it's not there, you know you're dreaming.

Dudge: exactly

eadon-com: I decided to turn around and look at her asleep in bed, and (I was conscious in my dream, this was a lucid dream).... I woke up. but the strange thing is...

dlh: but how would you know in your dream to look for it Dudge?

Dudge: You'll be used to seeing it there, dlh, naturally. So if what happens in the dream isn't what you're used to... you'll naturally notice it, if you're lucky.

CryoWolf: that's the trick.... at some point in your dream you have to come to the realization that it's possible you may be dreaming right now.

dlh: eadon, I can see why you remembered this dream

eadon-com: when I woke up the conscious aspect of waking up was (for the only time in my life) indistinguishable from the conscious experience of being awake. I was just as conscious in my lucid dream as I was awake. This experience of conscious dreaming only happened to me once.

CryoWolf: are you sure you weren't on acid, eadon?

dlh: all of this has given dlh quite a headache

eadon-com: I read that a researcher of lucid dreams had only three lucid dreams in his whole life. I have had one so far.

SnafuFoobar: I've had a few .... not many. Why not get into the habit (this will drive you mad but whatever) of constantly thinking "Am I dreaming? Am I dreaming?" If this becomes second nature you will eventually ask it in a dream

dlh: interesting thought SnafuFoobar

eadon-com: A lucid dream in unmistakeable.

dlh: so SnafuFoobar, do you ask yourself that in your dreams?

SnafuFoobar: no I don't

CryoWolf: the beauty of lucid dreaming is exactly the fact that dreams feel real, so you would be able to do things you've always wanted to do, and it feels just as good.

eadon-com: The feeling is great.

dlh: I wonder if Alzheimer patients dream, and, if so, about what

CryoWolf: they probably do, but can't remember when they wake up.

BishopHavoc: I had a lucid dream that this gal sleeping next to me was biting my neck like a vampire, 4 different times in 20 mins... would wake up, and there she was sleeping

eadon-com: There are devices available to help you "wake up" in your dreams. I might buy one. They detect when you have REM sleep and they do Vibrate your hand or whatever

dlh: cool eadon, where do you buy them?

CryoWolf: it's called a vibrator, eadon.

Dudge: Heard of those too, eadon, but I trusted the psychologists that weren't trying to sell them more, eh?

SnafuFoobar: small electric shocks have also been used in research

dlh: are they advertized on the back of the comic books next to the penis enlargers?

eadon-com: Well I haven't bought one yet, but I might be gullible and try one out

SnafuFoobar: I think you mess with your dreams at peril .... they keep you sane

eadon-com: Well I really want another lucid dream.

eadon-com: Has dlh ever had a lucid dream?

dlh: I think so eadon

SnafuFoobar: Did you have the sensation of willing things to happen in your lucid dream? And then they did

dlh: yes SnafuFoobar

eadon-com: think???? It is not ambiguous. You know when it is happening

dlh: seems like mine was about sex too, LOL

dlh: but sex in my dreams is never as good as sex in real life, ROFL

SnafuFoobar: I think I had more lucid dreams as a child

Batman: I never dream about sex...I wonder if that means anything.

Dudge: Next time this hot gal says, "Never! You're dreaming, buddy" you'll know what she's talking about. And you'll know to go for it, since in your dream, she's not even real.

eadon-com: Actually dlh, when I was a kid I had erotic dreams in which the ecstasy exceeded any ecstasy I have ever experienced in waking life!

dlh: woah eadon, amazing

Batman: musta been a wet dream..:)

eadon-com: Strange thing was that the ecstasy was sexual and yet I would be dreaming about getting on a train with my cousins or swimming in a race with my cousins etc. I should shut up now :)

Batman: lol...always with the cousins?

eadon-com: Those are the ones that I remember!

dlh: eadon you need professional help! j/k!

eadon-com: I do? Thank god I am within the reach of help!

Dudge: eadon, sure you're not from Kentucky?
