Where did you find out that copyright protected cds can ruin Mac operating systems? Sorry, but this worries me as I run one. I fully agree with everything you are saying.
Yes, the comment about killing MACS is true. The CD gets locked into the drive and requires a dealer to release it. It's because Apple did not test (how could they) with a CD that had been corrupted for copy protection. Philips are also up in arms because most copy protection breaks their CD standard. They are saying any CD with copy protection should not be able to display the CD logo.
I agree totally with your assessment of RIAA. American pop music is insufferably bland, monotonous, insipid, stifling, and macho. I despise with a passion the pabulum that is aired on pop, rock, adult contemporary, hip-hop, and country stations--it is oppressive, right-of-center, and corporate.
Well, before I finally grew up, I unwittingly contributed a sizeable sum of cash to the music industry by purchasing cds out the wazzoo. It now pisses me off to no end that they are trying to hack into our computers and police the internet. I have stopped purchasing cds, watching mtv, watching the music awards...etc. Pretty much a total boycott. Actually, I stopped buying cds before the computer crap started flying because frankly, I can't afford the damn things. It appears as though the middle class working people of America are increasingly losing ground. Our good paying jobs are being lobbed outta the country to benefit the large corporations leaving the American people at a loss (NAFTA?). My employer shut down and took back their 401k contribution from our 401K plans (Enron?). How is that allowed to happen? RIAA.. we have more important things to worry about than buying an overpriced future coaster with maybe 3 good songs tops. Things like just barely staying afloat and avoiding getting screwed by other large corporations like yourselves. Hell, my water bill tripled this year for no good reason. Going after the little guy in the Verizon case is going to backfire on them! They think it will scare all of us. Well IT PISSES US OFF!!!!! BOYCOTT I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Napster will have the last laugh. The way I see it, Napster did not lose. They were actually the beginning of the end for the RIAA ;)
music is our world and we should not take advantage of it. Send our money on supporting those who give us what we want. Do not take away things that have been given to us. We all need to pay for what we take. And even that. downloading of music for free is copywritting. There should be no need to steal from others. Other people have to pay for what they want and we should do the same. Thanks again. Im sorry if this is too touch for those who like to sin.....
Thank you for the article on the RIAA. I sent this in an email to everyone I know in the hopes of starting a chain email. It upsets me greatly that even if you pay for music on Itunes, (and other subsciption services as well) the purchased music still comes with digital rights management. The afore mentioned encryption, means that I am limited on how many PC's in my house can have the music that I purchased on them. I am a firm believer in file sharing. About a month ago, my favorite file sharing program,WinMX, was shut down by the RIAA. Thankfully, some knowledgeable users of WinMX developed a patch to get this program running again. As a result, I have chosen to boycott all purchases of commercial cds. I know that the RIAA is watching the newly resurrected WinMX, and I will be right there downloading all my favorite music just to piss em off!!!!!!
I agree with you, completely. A while back I turned off the TV, I turned off mainstream music and now I ONLY support indie artists, podcasters and video bloggers.
