He and I talked. I remember congratulating him on his clever choice of nick on ICC. My wife (squinch on ICC) more than once laughed outloud while sitting at the computer. And as I was busy about doing the dishes, vacuuming the carpet or other chores she bid me, more than once I asked, 'What's so funny?' To wit she said, more than once, through the corner of her mouth, '... cunning said...' then, head bent, her laughter tailing off, I returned to my chores and she returned to typing. As eadon said, he was quite witty and never bating in the customary way.
I also speak candidly and reflect the first paragraph of eadon-com. My encounter of Michael was also just over internet. There is no doubt that Michael was a remarkable man and with so much good said of him. To the ones he touched he made so much good impact. My encounter with him was not so good however, and I saw that of which is in all humans a darker side. Having said this though, I feel that I have learned an important lesson or two about people, my self and life in general. For that I thank you Michael! My sincere regards to Dawn and his family.
Michael was a great guy, and he had this witty and yet serious side of humour to reckon with. I was fortunate enough to meet up with him on a couple of occasions. He certainly lived a fast-paced full life, with work providing him plenty of travelling time. Michael certainly was a man of immense character, talent and love and will be missed by many. Cya round mate.
Je déplore la perte d' un ami des échecs.
Je pense à toi chaque fois que je remets les pièces en place pour une nouvelle partie.
Tu nous accompagnera toujours sur l'échiquier.
