Mummy, will you
come and play?
There's a dragon in the garden, I saw him yesterday.
Underneath the apple tree
He's waiting there for you & me.
What was that, Baby?
What did you say?
Mummy's far too busy now,
Just run away & play.
But Mum, you've got to come and see,
The dragon in the garden just blinked his fiery
eyes at me.
His skin is green, his wings are gold,
I think he's very, very old.
Not now, baby, leave me be.
There's work to do,
And I'm cooking tea.
But Mum, if we don't go & look
The dragon in the garden might fly back into
his book.
To guard his princess, burn the town,
Bring the towers tumbling down.
In a minute, in a while,
Be with you soon,
Give me a smile.
Oh come on Mum! Don't make a fuss
The dragon in the garden won't wait around for
us.
He'll spread his golden wings and fly
Away into the bright blue sky.
Alright baby, let's go see,
The dragon under the apple tree
I saw him lots when I was young
He rolled his eyes and flicked his tongue.
Flapped his golden wings, and blew
Fire, scorching as dragons do.
But time has clouded childhood's eyes
Imagination soars in different skies.
And thus I could no longer see
A dragon, under the apple tree.
So, my son, we'll look today
Before that dragon flies away,
Taking with him childhood's face
Leaving a boy, in my baby's place.
