Comment:Hi, Just a note to say I was born and bred in Newport when it was a quite market town, I left to get married 27years ago. I would love hear from anyone who knew me way back then. My mum still lives there sadly my dad Norman (Shutty) is dead now, I visit often but I don't seem to know anyone, lots of new faces.

Subject:Famous Newportian - Ben Jones
Comment:Do you know the history of Newport's most famous son - Ben Jones (as in Jones' chipshop). Is it true that he won a medal in the Olympics for horseriding - there is a picture of him in the chipshop with his medal, but I can find no reference to him on the official Olympic website.

Comment:I think your main page may have a better image and impact if you didn't use word like 'crappy' and set it out as a more serious page. [The idea is nice, but this happens all over the country, not just Newport. If everyone stuck to local shops then they would just expand and become 'face-less' chains eventually. Shops do that because in the end everyone just wants more money and by expanding, getting cheaper food and labour whilst quailty often decreases, profit increases. This is just my opinion of course, as is yours.]

Subject:History of Newport
Comment:Do you know whether there is still one old cobbled street in Newport that has 'deep kerbs'. A road that when the river flooded (is there a river nearby?) would run along this road into an ox bow and re-join the river further on down. Also,is there a valley about three miles from Newport with coniferous trees along one side of it? Do you know of a family with the surname Cadwallader or Cadwallardine?

Comment:Unfortunately, the youth also cause hell and make it unpleasant for other people. I am a youth myself, but i dont go around picking fights or causing havoc because it's really quite pointless and sad. Jim? I think you should write something about how dangerous Newport also is. For example, Victoria Park at night time and other such. My friend told me that about 10 people a year get killed at V.P. Sad but true. Keep up the work on the site - a pleasure to read.

Subject:i live there cuurently
Comment:well i have lived in newport shropshire or the surrounding area fro the whole of my life (eventhough i am only 12). i was bron in nearby shrewsbury and lived in lilleshall and tibberton (surrounding villages) before moving onto the town very recently. i find it has nearly everything i need, school, basic shops, meeting places (a yummy chip shop)etc. i do however think that it is not a suitable place for youth ass it is still traditional and has maintained many original features of an old market town. i do go to telford and shrewsbury often i must admit but only beacause i feel it is starting to be takaen pver by the bad sort of youth with vandalism and so on but i am interested in what you are saying about bringigng the economy and have taken notice. Thankyou for making the awareness and i hope more people like me will view your page and come and see what treasures Newport holds. thanks Olivia xxx

Subject:Newport
Comment:I moved to Newport in the late 80's and got to know a lot of the 'rockers'. We all used to drink in the 'Bridge' as well as other pubs. There would have been around twenty of us, but we never caused trouble, Just got drunk! Newport does not seem to have changed much over the last twenty years or so. However, I would agree that todays youth make it a misery for other people on Friday and Saturday nights. I have noted Lea's comments and remember him well from many years ago. How are you mate?
