we have friends who moved from liverpool to newport approx 10yrs ago, we have been fortunate to be invited on average a couple of times a year. we find the town is a brilliant 'real life 'diversion from the the everyday crap that a so called big city offers, if we could relocate through work, i would have no hesitation at all.
i totally agree with alot of your comments regarding local produce and local establishments.
as i write to you we have just had a superb easter break in newport and i cant wait to go back
The scene where the mother is taking the fathers and daughters clothes out of the cupboard, the box of ropes and stockings under the bed and the lock on the outside of the mothers bedroom, all sugested to me that the daughter had been subjected to these masochistic acts by her father and this is why she is so crazy. This would explain why she is so disconnected from any normal emotion. I haven't read the book but would be interested to know if there is any mention of the father in the story. the way the mother and daughter carry on with the concert as if nothing unsusual has occured after the rape scene suggest to me that this treatment from men is normal to them.
