Wendell | 2002-11-23 06:43:45 | | Subject: | Paris | | Comment: | How condescending. Did you really think those of us here in America would assume that a French film was made in Paris, Texas? Absolutely none of the people I know would ever make such an assumption about the intelligence level of people in your country. How about some objectivity? | | | | | From: |
MadPole | 2002-11-23 17:43:14 | | Subject: | Wendell... | | Comment: | I think You missed the whole point dear (if You don't mind me calling You 'dear' that is)....the only way to stay objective is to keep one's mouth shut and definitely not make any movies... your comment is just a Wunder Bra confirmation that this movie, like God Him/Herself hehehehe, works in mysterious ways lol... ;-) | | | | | From: |
MadPole | 2002-11-23 19:39:47 | | Subject: | Delicatessen | | Comment: | Delicatessen vs 'League of Gentlemen'...irresistible - but once I gave in.. Monthy Python sprang to mind... so your review Jimmy boy is brilliant.. and yes.. You have a point about Holy Wood vs Europe match.. but English are Wunder Bra too... they have ideas.. but maybe not means....so they have to 'bounce them off' 'against' Europe to get it off the grounds... ;-) | | | | | From: |
Lain | 2003-03-16 22:16:01 | | Subject: | Amelie is Enchanting | | Comment: | I was very pleased with your positive review on Amelie. I loved this movie, having seen it three times over, and I've recently aquired four songs from the soundtrack. I'm an American teenager, but personally I've never felt I fit with the 'culture' and all around disposition of general American society, especially of people my age, so I'm a big fan of European movies, music and books. However, you seem to think that all Americans are fools, something I seemed to gather of your Paris comment, which was surely not nessecary. When we hear the word 'Paris' here in America, EVERYBODY solely or initially thinks of Paris, France. In fact, I think only a tiny percentage would ever find 'Paris, Texas' entering their minds at ALL. It's just not like that. | | | | | From: |
Sarah | 2003-10-27 16:44:08 | | Subject: | Amelie | | Comment: | While I certainly agree with you on the quality of the film, Amelie, I find your stereotype of Americans to be, quite frankly, bullshit. I have never come across someone who would associate Paris with Paris, Texas....although it is a lovely small town. I think it disgusting how you stereotype Americans and then have the audacity to call US the idiots!! If you were an American, I would be ashamed to call you my countryman!! You are the reason scientists believe we came from gorillas! | | | | | From: |
erin | 2003-12-09 19:24:24 | | Subject: | type of film | | Comment: | i absolutely loved this movie. Beyond the enchanting story, the photography and cinematography were beautiful. The colors were gorgeous. I am a film student, but a new-jack at that. However, I am quite learned in still photography, and using what knowledge I have of this area, I had a hypothosesis that this movie was shot on color chrome film which 1) would have made this movie quite a bit more expensive than a normal film shot on 35mm and 2)given the film that beautiful vibrant and stunning color scheme. Another factor that made me come to this hyposthesis was that fact that even though the colors were so vibrant there were no whites. They all had this green hue to it. Color chrome does this in still photography so this is why i am wondering if anyone knew or could tell me if i am right. i am very curious because i have never heard of this being done.
thanks,

Liane | 2004-01-20 20:50:13 | | Subject: | Amelie | | Comment: | I just stumbled across this page and am raelly enjoying your reviews. Thanks. I must comment that I am an American, and thoroughly enjoyed your jab at our 'culture.'
Amelie was extremely moving for me. When I saw it my father-in-law had ad a catastrophic stroke a few days prior. My husband and I were terribly stressed and sad and heartbroken. I was so charmed and lightened by Amelie that when it end I broke down into heaving sobs. That's a very new experience for me! But, it was an emotional relief to see that much beauty and gentleness on screen when I had just lived so much fear and ugliness. I now have the DVD in my collection and intend to go watch it before bed. :-) | | | | | From: |

Shannon | 2004-06-27 16:58:41 | | Subject: | small minds | | Comment: | Aparrently, there are some who find your prigishness endearing. That being said, as an American who grew up alternately in Chicago and Manchester, I am sighing in resignation at the fact that my or anyone else's comments on this forum will not change your pathetic prejudices. I assure you, there ARE some real bastards in the US, however, I have encountered nothing less in the UK. Have you ever even been to the States? Judging us by the cinematic products of a few big studios in California is akin to us judging all Brits by what we catch from 'the Daily Mirror.' (Not to mention your lovely late-night television programs.)
I saw 'Amelie' as soon as it was released in the US on the recommendation of a friend from Annecy. (The one in FRANCE for the benefit of our small-minded friend) It is a lovely film and I have since bought the DVD for myself and several friends. Please, in the future, refrain from being a total prig.
Many thanks | | | | | From: |
