Comment:While this may not have been a 'great ' movie. It did try to look at and show to the general public low mental illness operates. The voices are 'real' to those experincing them. The real John Nash does suffer from mental illness, and the point of the movie was to show this, not show mathmatics. Of course it took liberties with the truth, the main point of the movie is to entertain and to make money.

Comment:Maybe his flatmate's absence from the wedding was a hint that he's imaginary and not real. During the wedding I was wondering why he wasn't there, although I didn't doubt his being a real character. I just don't have enough movie experience to understand such hints. There were more such hints by the way, very subtle details that point to the development of a disease. Ever noticed that as the film goes on he starts forgetting to shave? The camera work was also brilliant. Whenever John Nash had a delusion, you would hear the sound of him or her approaching first and only then would the camera shift to the imagined character. I would have loved to learn a little bit more about Nash's mind and the relationship between genius and madness, but I think the movie is very good at showing the horror of schizophrenia and it enables outsiders to understand schizophrenic patients better (the scene in the park with Nash struggling with his imagined enemies with everybody around him watching him was terrific in this respect) Not a classic but it certainly deserves a 7 or 8.

Comment:smartass... you could tell the wedding was small and had no groomsmen. And I'm sure he told her that he just wasn't able to make it... stick to the things that are a little more clever (like the 'visible star' thing)...I'll have to check that out.

Comment:um, the movie wasnt about math, it was about mental illness and how jennifer connelly is one hot babe. brilliant script, acting, cinematography. i cried, and i ain't cried since demi moore kissed whoopi goldberg in 'ghost' so it musta been good.

Comment:I have read what some of you think about Nash's roommate not being at his wedding. Pay a little closer attention to the movie. They tell you why he wasn't there.(Yes, i know he wasn't truly there anyways) But... They said something along the lines of; he wanted to be there, but he had to work.

Comment:you are absoultely right. i hate the way that so many facts have been changed with the only intention of making the character more palatable and introducing elements of suspense. why does hollywood do this?

Comment:It is quite amazing to see how many people are upset that this film is not what it wasn't meant to be. So let me give You some advice: Russell Crowe is not and doesn't look like John Nash. It is not a film about John Nash. It is not his autobirography. It is a film about Schizophrenia, based on real life story. BASED on real life story. I am really not quite sure whether to blame film Producers for getting John Nash tangled up in this (and I guess everybody just wanted to pay a tribute to him, which only backfired) or people who would like to see a film about John Nash, and are very unhappy that the film they have just seen is not about John Nash. Apart from that: the film may be not 'top of the league' but it is very interesting and educating film, I find, and one has to read comments of the likes of Knoeier to see why.

Comment:Honestly, this movie is not about John Nash's abilities to solve math problems. It is about schyztophrenia and the struggle that all schyztophrenics go through everyday. And you say he was going mad?? I could understand you confusing psychosis with 'going mad' but no way is schytzophrenia is going mad.

Comment:I'm always late getting around to watching films. I'm a cheapskate who prefers to wait till it comes on the telly or I rent 3-for-2 from Blockbusters. I've got kids and it costs a bloody fortune taking a family to the cinema, aside from all the smuggling in of our own food to avoid the excessive cinema prices. Anyway, I thought BM was overrated and not worth the Oscar fuss. I've always found Ron Howards films lacking slightly. They're ok technically, just lack a bit of edge. Seeing it without knowing, at the time, that it was a true story, I was immensely disappointed to find out that our hero was wrong all the way through and, in fact, the 'bad guys' (doctors etc.) were completely right. I thought he WAS being conspired against by the Russians, blah, blah, but I thought old Russ would come through. But no, he was crackers all along. The finale was a dull wind-down with the main characters acquiring several layers of make-up to age them very quickly and then, well, The End. It only today I found out Nash was a real guy and I viewed the flick slightly more appreciately. Still only 4 out of 10, though.

Comment:Why is it such a big deal? I dont think your analysis is a very good one. WHY would they make a movie about maths. It's pointless. The movie has two parts to it. It is about how John Nash was a very brilliant and intelligent man and how he won the nobel prize. And it is about his suffering from schizophrenia. It is a great movie, because it gives us some insight to what people that have shizophrenia actually go through. I feel that it is a very touching movie. Who cares about stars, are you hammered? great movie. :) on ya bike fuckhead.

Subject:Your Review
Comment:While you have a point about the lack of depth on Nash himself in A Beautiful Mind, you have to ask yourself the all important question. Of the people who have watched A Beautiful Mind, we can agree there are quite a view who hate mathematics, I can tell from your views that you know quite a lot, you should also realize that a movie about mathematics and the 3000 visible stars in the sky is not going to get a large movie audience. More importantly, people who would have had no idea about John Nash and his equilibrium in Game Theory know at least his name and the area of mathematics he worked in. Perhaps they will look more into this in the future as a result of this movie you consider to be 'Just Viewable.' There is more to the world than black or white. We should all be so wise to try to take everything in from all possible sides.
