| Comment: | Hi!
after having watched Lilja 4-ever a few days ago, I began searching for different reviews on the net and found yours. I totally agree with you!!! What saddens me a lot is that many people seems as if they are wrapped in some kind of a cocoon - they push away things they don't want to see. Sometimes this is necessary to keep some faith in the goodness of life, but films such as Lilja are crucial for us to see if we want to stay open-minded, informed and TOUCHED by the world we live in.
What I felt during the film was a strange relief, thinking 'I'm so glad I'm here and not in the reality of these images up there on the screen. I'm so thankful for my life, for my boyfriend sitting all shaken-up next to me, for my house, my warm room,...'. I wanted to pull Lilja out of the film, give her the nicest things and tell her that the world can actually be great a thousand times a day.
The simple, but so powerful image of her mother deserting her was heart-numbing. Watching that, I felt pain and grief and at the same time couldn't comprehend how things like that can happen.
In our lives, taken up by little every-day worries and petty concerns, it is ESSENTIAL to see a film like Lilja 4-ever!!!! though I do not have the power to change the situation of children like her, my contribution is my awareness. If there ever comes a time to help anyone, I know I will be able to see it and recognize it. |
