Comment:I think you miss the whole point of the movie here, on Truman's behalf. The beauty of his role is that, in a world of darkness, he saw only his light. An unflappable (albeit perhaps frustrated and desperate) optimism was his trademark, and he refused to let the blank walls of emotional guard from those all around him destroy his own dreams. He was the ultimate romantic dreamer; he couldn't find the kindred heart and adventure in his peers. They were, ironically, all just actors to him. Perhaps he suspected this all along, that there was something in life that was missing, and there was somewhere he could find it. I saw him as a tromented character, nonetheless kept vibrant by the realization that ideals are not in vain, that Fate will take its turn in time. And Christof? Not the marketing megalomaniac that you assume. He did indeed love Truman as his own, but he tried to manipulate Truman's world into what he saw as the perfect world for his child. Perhaps Christof was childless, loss a child, suffered in his own childhood? Christof too had a dream, noble though unreachable; to be a father to the most happy son and share the love with the world. For who in the world did not love Truman, truly? To mix this movie with darkness, to latch on one of your 'better' endings, would be to completely change its purpose. 'The Truman Show' is meant to touch you and leave you with a sense of hope. To help you question your realities and realize your dreams, knowing that even though we all ive in a world of actors we can still be true to our part. Becasue, in a sense, are we not all Truman, too?

Subject:The 'Star'
Comment:I disagree. I thought Jim Carey brought pathos to the role. One of his best performances I think. He has a child-like naieve quality which the role needed ; given his previous roles it was the perfect stepping stone to the more 'serious' work I'm sure he craves. Hey, Having a Star in a film is no bad thing; would you have watched it if starred Joe Blow ?
