Basically, The One involves a power mad Jet Li going on a mission throughout multiple universes to kill himself. For every instance of himself that he kills, the other instances become more powerful, in the style of The Highlander.

The One is set on Earth in what must be our universe, where a good Jet Li is being hunted by the bad (power mad = bad) Jet Li. As the plot progresses, we find out that these instances are the last two in the multiverse and as soon as one of them is killed the other will become The One! Nobody actually knows what happens when there is only one left - some people think nothing will happen, some that the universe will be destroyed. The bad Jet Li basically believes that he will become a god. As it is, the two Jet Li's are much stronger and faster than normal people, and there are great Matrix style scenes involving bullet time martial art (ish) combat. There is also a pretty cool scene where the bad Jet Li picks up a police motorbike in each hand then smashes them together, with the policeman in the middle! Unfortunately, some of the scenes aren't very realistic. For instance, the force of two motorbikes crushing a man in between them would leave a bloody human pulp afterwards, and not (as did happen) cause the man to simply fall over.

To make matters more interesting, the bad Jet Li is also being hunted by two multiverse policemen - who wield not very scary looking silver guns, complete with blue flashing light to prove they are an advanced technology!

Minor spoilers below:

The One ends with the bad Jet Li being sent to a prison planet (in the Hades universe...). Unfortunately, this means that nobody actually becomes The One, and you leave the cinema feeling slightly cheated. I think it would have been a better idea to have titled the film The Two! Then again, they've left it open for a potential sequel (The One 2?).

So. Good points: The One has great special effects. Interesting multiverse idea, obviously stolen from Sliders, although that, in turn was stolen from Michael Moorcock and other science fiction authors.

Bad points: The One has quite a few flaws - it turns out that the bad Jet Li has murdered himself 123 times before he has to kill the final Jet Li. This means that in a multiverse of infinite possibilities there are only 125 Jet Li's. Ummm. Also, no blood and gore.
