Subject:Fist At Last!
Comment:Nudity: zero. Sex: still in a stage of delicate and elaborate foreplay, copulating cobras have been hinted to keep the reader hopeful. Oh yes, and this song about hot dick suckers of course. Length: much longer than chapter 1 or 2. This might be welcomed by some mature readers but the danger here is that students, as a rule, are not capable of such long attention span (Mr. Knorr?) without nudity and sex being mentioned. The deep meaning: Kitchen spelled with capital 'K' will make Freudian critics go wild (Mr. Knorr?). Educational value: Universe is made of millions and millions of galaxies which are made of hot matter, cold matter and cosmic strings. No mention of Zeus or Cronus (Kronier?) as yet. No monsters or spiritual killings have appeared on the scene. I hope this helps Mr. Iso, I really do.

Subject:Nudity
Comment:Sorry, I forgot nudity: none. This forces me to give this chapter only 8 points instead of usual 10. Once the nudity made its entrance on the scene (chapter 2) one would hope that it would be on the increase, heading unavoidably, as Titanic, toward 4 in bed romp. There was also no drugs or strong lager in this episode, although the presence of empty bottles ....

Subject:chapter 3
Comment:Novels like 'Less than Zero' and 'American Psycho' by B.E. Ellis come to mind when reading this chapter. Just like this book, they're set in a meaningless world in the late eighties, and decadence, materialism and selfishness rule(notice the charitable donations thermometer with the target sum way out of reach). The characters lead empty lives. Howard is too lazy to walk to the campus, and wastes more time finding a parking place than he would have needed to walk to the lecture theater. He refuses to plan his future. He seems to be quite a loser. He is shy. His notes are intelligible (oh so recognizable!). Jacintha isn't even willing to lend him her notes. By the way, I looked up the meaning of the name Jacintha and discovered that it means 'beauty'! See http://goodnames4u.com/firstnames/index.html. I begin to fear that Howard will end up not having sex in the novel at all and that MadPole will be waiting for it in vain. Maybe an important theme of the novel is the destructive and inescapable power of female attractiveness and/or sexual desire. It seems Howard isn't so much looking for affection as for sex. Right after he has experienced her beauty, he realizes that 'having sex with her would be the worst curse' on his life. 'Once her claws dig in it would signal the death of the soul'. Strong rethoric there. While the lecturer is discussing the endless universe with its millions of galaxies, Howard can only pay attention to some girl who is sitting next to him. I can't wait for the next chapter.
