Subject:Quantim mechanics
Comment:As I understand it, quantum mechanics does not imply that nothing is happening until an observation is made, lotsa stuff is going on, accordin to Schrodinger probabilities. When an observation is made, the probabilities 'collapse' into what is observed.

Subject:Falling tree
Comment:It is true to say that no sound was made if a tree falls and there is nobody there to hear it, there are no recordings made (does not apply if the recordings are never observed), and that any consiquences of the tree falling are never observed by a conscious being. If none of the consiquences of the tree falling affects my life in any way directly or indirectly i could then say the tree did not fall. Therefore I am saying that the universe would not exist if I was not there to observe it. I am aware of this sounding arrogent but this maybe due to everyone having their seperate consciousness with time being different for all of them.

Comment:Sound, by definition, is simply the movement of waves caused by contact and movement between two objects. When a tree falls, these sound waves ARE created. No person in their right mind would argue this point. Whether or not some one was there to observe and record the presence of these sound waves is simply an esoteric viewpoint not even worth considering.

Comment:Slaps you with a wet sock, your missing the point fellas! The tree paradox is a zen koan intended to demonstrate that right and wrong is subjective. The intellectual effort you attempted is a one of many possible apporaches to solving it. Think outside the box and never give up; logic is not the only tool you have ;) Check out http://www.do-not-zzz.com/ for the vibe. Another point, the wave function in quantum physics is a probability wave; it has no tangible existance. Its 'existance' and its 'collapse' are simply mathematical convienences.
