Before we nail down the meaning of
sex,
erm, I mean,
conception, let's
consider what life actually is. Loosely speaking,
life is a self-sustaining, metabolic, positive-feedback
loop. In descending order of sophistication,
the known lineages of living things are: the
animal kingdom; the plant kingdom; the fungal
kingdom; the bacterial kingdom and last, and
most importantly, the brewer's
yeast kingdom.
Most life on earth depends on sunlight for energy
and nutrients for its building blocks. Other
lifeforms spurn the sun and extract energy from
deep-sea hydrothermal vents or chemical energy
locked up in rocks.
But why does life bother? Because only the life
that bothers, survives.
A wise biologist once noticed that the chicken
is the egg's way of making another egg. Likewise
a man is the sperm's way of making another sperm.
And a lady is the human egg's way of making
life hell once a month. This is the
"The
meaning of conception". Depending
on your gender, you are nothing more important
than either a sperm's chauffeur, or an egg box.
But, you may ask, what about SEX??? After
all, to conceive, the higher creatures shag.
The answer is that Sex - the act - is to Conception
what the Petrol Pump is to Motoring.
Sex - the concept - is
of momentous, earth-moving
import, it thrusts the evolution of the
more complex creatures. Sex (coupled with mutation)
is Nature's recipe for cooking the gene pool
a bit to prevent life getting stuck in a rut.
Sex - the act is merely a diversion;
a side show; a firework display; a dazzling
